5 Most Common Questions Asked In My Practice About Botox
1. Who gets Botox? None of my friends!
You would be surprised- Botox is more mainstream then you think. From soccer moms empty nesters, millennials and middle agers, people of all ages and stages swear by Botox.
2. Is it safe? I mean - it's a toxin, right? (Are there any negative side effects of injecting a toxin into my body?)
Yes, it is very safe. Botox is the brand name of a toxin produced by Clostridium botulinum. In large amounts, this toxin can cause a form of muscle paralysis known as botulism, which is usually associated with food poisoning. Small, diluted amounts can be directly injected into specific muscles causing controlled relaxation of the muscles and thus, smoothing fine lines in the face. Cosmetic providers have been using it for years to successfully treat wrinkles and facial creases. Botox is commonly used for treatment of frown lines on the forehead and crow's feet around the eyes
3. How long does it last?
An injection lasts approximately 4-5 months.
4. I don't want to look like Tim Allen in Christmas with the Kranks! Will my face look frozen immediately after Botox?
Absolutely not! When administered properly you will see smoothness in the forehead and around the eyes. It is a subtle but beautiful difference. People will not likely notice the areas treated but may comment on how beautiful, rested, and confident you look.
5. Will I have to put up with bruises on my face?
While I can't promise (every injection comes with a small risk of bruising), I can confidently say that I take great care to prevent this. I use Arnica cream post procedure and send you with a small container to use at home. As a Nurse Practitioner, I have been injecting people and doing simple skin procedures for almost 30 years and I feel that my technique has proven to be successful.
